A man who stole a truck carrying more than a million dollars worth of new Corvettes from a truck stop in Arizona told agents he only took the truck because he needed a ride home after getting out of prison, authorities said on Thursday. Thursday.

Isaiah Walker, 23, of Lawton, Oklahoma, assaulted and robbed a truck driver at Loves Truck Stop in Willcox, near Interstate 10, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said.

Walker was talking to the victim about his truck and “calmed him down by giving him a sense of security” before grabbing the victim and throwing him out of the cab, according to the sheriff’s office.

Walker allegedly left in the truck, which was carrying 10 Chevrolet C8 Corvettes with an estimated value of more than $1.25 million.

An officer saw the stolen truck and attempted to stop the vehicle, but officials said the driver refused to stop. The driver fled at full speed, forcing the other vehicles to leave the road.

The stolen truck eventually stopped and Walker was taken into custody.

“Walker admitted to stealing the vehicle and advised that the Corvettes were not the motive and that he needed a truck to get home since he had just gotten out of jail,” the sheriff’s office said.

Walker was booked into the Cochise County Jail on multiple felony charges, including robbery, 11 counts of theft of conveyance and felony theft.

Meanwhile, the truck was recovered without any damage and turned over to the original driver so he could continue his delivery, Willcox Police Chief Dale Hadfield said.

“The officer and deputy showed great restraint and patience in peacefully resolving a serious crime while preventing damage to the property of others,” the chief said.
